Victory number 2 for Coryn Rivera

Amercian powerhouse Coryn Rivera (Team SUNWEB) sprinted to her second victory of the week in Schleiz. She won the sprint of the reduced peloton followed by Lisa Brennauer (Wiggle High5) and Roxane Fournier (FDJ Aquitaine Futuroscope).

The stage in Schleiz is well known in the peloton as it is marked by numerous hills, narrow roads, and a scenic landscape. The riders had to do a long lap, followed by another small one before finishing the 126,6 km stage.

At the beginning of the race few riders tried to attack but without success. Later on, Margarita Syradoeva (Nationalteam Russia) and Nicole Steitenga (SwaboLadies.nl) escaped and quickly set a few seconds between them and the bunch. Tatjana Paller, who starts for the German National Team, was keen to close the gap to the two leaders and after shortly before the first WNT sprint classification she caught up with them. The three leaders gained a gap of nearly 4 minutes at times, but with the second OPEL Schorr mountain classification of the day coming closer, team Trek-Drops reduced the gap and finally caught one rider after another with Tatjana Paller being the last one. She was also named the most active rider of the stage and will wear the Saalfelder Brauerei jersey on Thursday. Shortly after that Team SUNWEB rider Lucinda Brand and Emilia Fahlin of Wiggle High5 tried their luck. Brand also won the last intermediate sprint of the day, but with 8 kilometers to go they were caught as well. The reduced bunch came to the finish and the race ended in a massed sprint where Coryn Rivera was the strongest again. ‘I didn’t feel really good at the beginning, but after the second mountain classification I felt better and better. I’m really happy that I could take the win after such a hard stage’, said Rivera after the race. She secured the win ahead of Brennauer, who sprinted to her third podium spot the week, and Roxane Fournier.
